Understanding NDIS Capacity Building Support




The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new Australian government initiative to provide better support for people with disability. The aim of the NDIS is to ensure that people with disability have access to the services and supports they need to live in the community and achieve their full potential. The NDIS will provide a range of services and supports to help people with disability to live, work and participate in society.

This is a list of the three different budgets:

1. Core Supports – supports for everyday activities

2. Capacity Building Supports – supports to help you build your skills and increase your independence

3. Capital Supports – supports such as assistive technology, vehicle modifications, home modifications and Specialist Disability Accommodation.

 

1. Core Supports

Core Supports are the basic supports that everyone needs. These are the things that are required for everyday activities. Some of these include:

* Equipment such as wheelchairs or other mobility devices

* Communication equipment such as a telephone or text machine

* Information technology equipment such as a computer or laptop

* Transport such as a car or taxi

* Home adaptations such as ramps or handrails

* Personal care equipment such as a bath or shower

* A home or community-based support worker

 

2. Capacity Building Supports

Capacity Building Supports are the supports that help you develop your skills and increase your independence. These supports include:

* Training and education

* Mentoring and coaching

* Support to improve communication

* Support to improve decision making

* Support to improve problem solving

 

3. Capital Supports

Capital Supports are the supports that help you achieve your goals and get the most out of life. These are the supports that are required to make your life easier and to help you to achieve your goals. These include:

* Assistance with housing

* Assistance with mobility

* Assistance with transport

* Assistance with social and recreational activities

* Access to employment services

* Assistance with access to information and communication technology

* Assistance with managing money

* Assistance with health care
